William Benjamin Wofford

William was born on March 20, 1960 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Robert McKendree and Marie Ellen Kilby Wofford. He was known as Billy to family and close friends.

William graduated high school in 1979 from Sheridan High School. He attended Southern Arkansas University Tech in Camden, Arkansas earning a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. In 1992, William started working at Heritage Engineering. He was employed as a Senior Project Designer and remained there until the end of his career on April 3, 2026.

William joined the United States Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Seabees, in 1997. He reached the rank of Engineering Aid Second Class when he left in 2004.

William had numerous interests. He enjoyed hiking with friends and family throughout the parks and mountains of Arkansas. Before his death, William was involved in restoring antique tractors with his brother Paul. He became interested in collecting antique mason jars after he had civics class with Mr. Goolsby at Sheridan High School. He began exploring old, local homesteads close to his home. He recently started digging for Native American artifacts on the family farm.

William joined the First Baptist Church in Sheridan, Arkansas in 2017. He was a member of the Sam McDonald Sunday School class. He actively participated in the monthly food pantry at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert McKendree and Marie Ellen Kilby Wofford and his older brother Robert McKendree Wofford Jr. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Virginia and Wayne Plylar; Carolyn and Pete Akers; Joyce Lamb; John and Karen Wofford, Randy Wofford, and Paul and Linda Wofford. He is survived by numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends like Eddy Otwell and Kevin Butcher.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Grant County Museum at 521 W. Shackleford Street, Sheridan, AR 72150 or to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry at 1201 S. Rock Street Sheridan, AR 72150 (870-942-2211).
