Oscar Allen Gerard, Sr., 81, of Rison, went to be with his Lord on November 20, 2025. He was born on November 7, 1944, in Dumas, Arkansas, to the late Josephine Gerard-Veazy. In addition, he was preceded in death by his Step-Father Ed Veazy, siblings Mary Turner, Albert Gerard, and Joann Woods.
Oscar lived a life defined by service, integrity, and devotion to his family and community. He proudly served with the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission for more than 35 years, beginning his career in Cleveland County and retiring in Garland County with the rank of Sergeant. Throughout his career, he was respected as a firm but fair officer and was honored with the Boating Officer of the Year award—an achievement that reflected his dedication to protecting Arkansas’s natural resources and the people who enjoyed them.
A member of Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church, Oscar lived out his values daily. Known for his strong work ethic, he owned and operated CAMO, a four-wheeler repair and fabrication business, where his skill and craftsmanship became well known throughout the area.
Oscar had a love for the outdoors that carried through every season of his life. He enjoyed working with his tractor, traveling, camping, and spending time with those he loved most. Many of his happiest moments were found around the table at Staves Deer Club, sharing stories, eating peanuts, drinking coffee, and chewing on cigars with lifelong friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Gerard, whom he married on December 21, 1962, and with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He is also survived by his children, Oscar Gerard, Jr. his wife Tricia and Holly Gerard Taylor and her husband Kevin; his grandchildren Ashley Taylor And her husband Justin, Oscar Allen Gerard III and his wife Katie, Chase Taylor, and Marissa Moorefield and her husband Donovan; and his great-grandchildren Ana, Cannon, Miles, Lane, Aubree, Levi, Lucas, Lincoln, and Lawson. He is further survived by his sister, Hallie Burks, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buie & Cole Funeral Home in Rison.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, also at Buie & Cole Funeral Home, with Bro. Josh Luellen officiating. Funeral honors will be rendered by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, a final tribute to Oscar’s lifelong commitment to service.
Oscar will be remembered as a man of faith, strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on in the stories he told, the people he served, and the generations who were blessed to call him Dad, Papaw, Big O and friend.
