John Thomas King (Sandy), 77, of East End AR, passed away peacefully in his home on August 2, 2022. He was born on February 7, 1945 to the late Ellen Estelle King and Claude Mike King in Kingtown, AR, just outside of Marvell, AR. John was a retired industrial engineer with Lanxess for 18 years, prior to Pirelli Tire in Nashville, TN and then also retiring from the Hanford, CA tire plant. He was a hard worker and he enjoyed his work immensely. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Shirley and he was a kind and loving father to his daughter Angie. John was also a member of Trenton Missionary Baptist Church in Trenton, AR for many years. He then became a member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church in East End, AR, where he attended regularly. He enjoyed being outside doing yardwork and gardening and also working on projects in his shop. John also enjoyed traveling with his wife Shirley to many different places around the country. As a young boy, John accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He loved the Lord and it showed in the kindness and generosity he showed to others. John is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Estelle King; his father, Claude Mike King; his brother, Kevin King; and a stepson, Tim Herbert.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Shirley King; his daughter, Angela Dixon (Leland) of Biscoe, AR; his stepson, David Herbert (Melissa) of Sheridan, AR; his stepdaughter, Kim Keedy of Benton, AR; his step daughter-in-law Chrystal Herbert (Tim); his brother, Michael King (Sharon) of Walls, MS; his sister, Marsha Lee (Bill) of Murfreesboro, TN; and his brother Bradley King (Mitzi) of Vilonia, AR; 6 grandchildren; Hunter Dixon, Mathew Dixon, Kristen Cox (Michael), Karson Keedy (Kayla), Julia Herbert, and Jonathan Herbert (Annie), five great grandchildren; Brooklyn Baker, Slade Brents, Kurt Keedy, Klover Keedy, Maverick Herbert and a host of nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank Visiting Angels and Kindred Hospice for their kindness, love and compassion for John during his illness. May God pour His blessings upon you.
The family asks that all memorials be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at East Union Missionary Baptist Church in East End with Bro. Paul Roberts officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Smith-Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.
