Hardy Herrington, age 74, passed from this life on January 14, 2023. Hardy was born June 12, 1948, as the ninth of thirteen children to the late James Bernice ‘Hoody’ and Ola Mae (Puckett) Herrington. Hardy graduated from Rison High School in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Education degree at Arkansas A&M at Monticello in 1970. He met and married the love of his life, Tabitha Herrington, there. Hardy later received Master of Education (1984) and Educational Specialist (1987) degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Hardy worked as High School Principal at Winslow, Stamps, Dierks, Nevada County and Pine Bluff public schools over a span of 34 years. He was respected as a fair and competent administrator by students, parents, and fellow educators alike. He retired and built his dream home on the banks of the Saline River in Cleveland County in 2007. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved the Lord with all his heart. Hardy was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister. His brothers were George (Myrtle), Bill (Juanita), Tom (Margaret), Fred (June) and Lee. His sister was Berniece (James) Reed.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Tabitha Hobbs Herrington of Rison. Also surviving are two sons Austin Herrington (Leslie) of Orlando, FL and Steven (Melissa) Herrington of Hot Springs, AR. The joys of his life were his four grandchildren; Will Herrington, Anna Kate Herrington, and Ben Herrington of Orlando, FL, and Noah Herrington of Hot Springs, AR. Hardy is also survived by one brother, John (Ann) Herrington of Rison and five sisters; Ruth (Max) Reed of Calmer, Ethel Golden and Cescel Luker of North Little Rock, Donie Mull of Rison, and Ola (Ronnie) Hayes of Monticello. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison, AR from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church (on Hwy 35S) on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at the Macedonia Cemetery.
Services will be led by Brother Jackie Richardson and Brother Sluggo Norris. Pallbearers will be Chris Mull, Donald Mull, Wayne Herrington, Dan Herrington, Rowdy Oubre, and William King.
