George Boyd

July 28, 1946 — February 2, 2023

Rison

George Boyd, 76 of Rison, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 2, 2023, after a brief illness. George was born July 29, 1946, to Noel and Cora Boyd of Rison. George was a lifelong native of Rison. He graduated from Rison High School, and the day after graduating from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country from 1964-1967, being one of the first Marines that fought in Vietnam. After his service in the Marine Corps, he graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1972.

He accepted Christ as his Savior at a very young age at Rison Baptist Church, where he remained a member for over 65 years.

On June 1, 1968, he married the love of his life, Patsy Brown. The stories they told of their courtship began with him throwing a piece of candy at her in study hall when she was in the 8th grade. They were married for 54 precious years. In 1972 they welcomed a daughter, Rebecca Christine, and in 1980 a son, Jason Lee.

George was known as a very hard worker. He started his career by mowing grass at a young age, working in local mechanics shops, and working for his future in-laws at Brown Texaco. He retired on September 30, 2005 from the Arkansas Department of Health where he worked as a Registered Sanitarian for over 30 years. He enjoyed his farm life, raising cattle, building almost anything, and spending time on his tractor and in his shop. There was nothing that made him happier than being home in his overalls and enjoying a Diet Coke.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Cora Boyd, and his father and mother-in-law, Luther and Marie Brown.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife, Patsy Boyd of Rison, his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca (Wade) Totty of Camden, and his son and daughter-in-law, Jason (Ashley) Boyd of Rison. He is also survived by two sisters, Martha (Shelby) Knodel of Turnerville, Alabama and Carolyn (John) Bullock of Monticello. He also leaves behind his 5 precious grandchildren; Kathryn Totty of Camden, Haley Boyd of Judsonia, Noah Totty of Camden, Taylor Boyd of Rison, and Wyatt Boyd of Rison, who lovingly referred to him as “Daddy George.” In addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and great friends.

Memorials can be made to the George Boyd Agriculture Scholarship Fund for Rison High School.
