Donald Gene Williams, most widely known as “Meathead” or “Don,” of the Calmer community, AR, met his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He was born August 31, 1953, in Harmony, NC, to Dewey Vestal and Easter Augusta Williams. He moved to Pine Bluff, AR, in 1978, making Arkansas his permanent home.
Don overcome many challenges due to his deafness, but it did not stop him from becoming a prolific mechanic; or legendary for his ability as a dirt track race car driver and builder of dirt-track race cars. A legend his son, Don Allan, proudly carried on once “Meathead” retired his racing suit.
Don’s true passion was his family. He loved nothing more than being Papa to his “Andrea” (Adrea), “Little Monster” (Ethan), and “JoJo” (Kylee). He adored his grandchildren, and they knew he would give them anything they asked. He raised his two children, Brooke and Don Allan, having no doubts their Daddy loved them beyond all means, and he instilled in both of them a very strong work ethic learned from his example.
Don was notorious for practical jokes. His favorite being poking small holes in unaccompanied soda cans or cups, so they would leak when someone took a drink from them. It became known far-and-wide NEVER to leave a drink unsupervised if he was anywhere around. And, if he liked you, he would give you a nickname that was yours for the rest of your life.
Don was proceeded in death by his father, Dewey Vestal Williams; his mother, Easter Augusta Williams; twin brother, Ronald Gene Williams; brother, Vestal Williams; and sister, Wanda Kay Williams. He was also proceeded in death by his beloved mother-in-law, Annie Fay Kimbrell; brother-in-law, Franklin Lee Kimbrell; aunt, Margie Juanita Greenlee, uncle, Troy Lee Kimbrell; and uncle, Lewis Steele.
Don is survived by his daughter, Brooke Williams of Rison; son and daughter-in-law, Don Allan “Don” and Melissa Williams of Star City; grandchildren, Adrea Roberts, Ethan Williams, and Kylee Williams; daughter, Leighann Branton of North Carolina; his sister, JoAnn Stanfield of North Carolina; his sister, Doris Campbell of North Campbell; his father-in-law, Burless Kimbrell of Pine Bluff; sister-in-law, Lea Kimbrell of Vilonia; his two devoted companion dogs, JoBear and Button; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many friends he has made throughout the years.
Don “Meathead” Williams will truly be missed by many. He may have been hard-headed and stubborn, but he was an honorable man. That loved a good bicker and banter!
