Billy Jay Smith Sr

Billy Jay Smith Sr., 61, of Sheridan passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at his home. He was born May 31, 1946 in Dogwood Community in Prattsville, a son of the late Stergin Red and Dora Belle Smith. Billy was a wonderful father and grandfather that loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a disabled Navy veteran that served two tours in Vietnam. Billy was a member of the DAV and the American Legion Post 0030. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Pete Smith.

He is survived by his wife of forty three years, Carolyn Smith of Sheridan; daughter, Rebecca Brown of Sheridan; son, Billy Jay Smith Jr. of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Tausha , Shawna, and Thomas Taylor Brown, and Cassie Smith, all of Sheridan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lena and George Pullian of Cabot, Mary Ann and Warren Ware of Lewisville, Texas, Mildred Jarret of Sheridan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Ray and Francis Smith of Sheridan, Eddie and B.J. Smith of Sheridan.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Sheridan. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Buie Funeral Home. Pallbearers are: Alan Ellis, Greg Tomkins, Eddie Suttle, Larry Pumphrey, David Ellis, and Ralph Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bill Cummins and J.C. Gray. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
