Bill Charles Buford

Billy “Bill” C. Buford, 86, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in Benton. He was born December 2, 1939, in Yell County, the son of the late Lee and Effie Hill Buford.

Bill spent his early years in McGehee. Pine Bluff, Lake Village, and Sheridan before ultimately settling in Benton to be closer to his family. He was a proud graduate of McGehee High School.  A man of strong faith, he was a devoted member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock, where he joyfully served as a door greeter for many years.  Bill dedicated over 30 years to the United States Postal Service, working as a mail carrier in Pine Bluff, serving as Postmaster in Lake Village, and retiring as Postmaster in Sheridan. He was deeply involved in youth sports, especially baseball. He coached Little League and American Legion baseball in Pine Bluff for many years, leaving a lasting impact on countless young athletes. In addition, he was a respected high school and college official for baseball, football, and basketball. A true sportsman, Bill enjoyed all forms of hunting and fishing. However, his greatest devotion was always to God, his family, and his friends. He cherished every moment spent with those he loved. Known for his warm smile and kind spirit, Bill never met a stranger and touched many lives throughout his years.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Eagle Buford, and his brother, Jimmy Lee Buford. He is survived by two daughters: Libby Alford and husband Scott of Bryant, Arkansas; and Susan Whittle and husband Brad of Lake Village, Arkansas. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Kristen Agee (Cody) of Honolulu, Hawaii; Hunter Alford (Sierra) of Phoenix, Arizona; Jake Whittle (Kaley) of Monticello, Arkansas; and Jaden Whittle of Lake Village, Arkansas. Bill was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Paisley, Jackson, and Gracelyn Agee; River Wilson; Cypress and Slade Alford; and Jax and Kohen Whittle. He is additionally survived by his special friend, Frankie Marshall of Magnet Cove, Arkansas.

Bill’s legacy of kindness, service, and love will forever be cherished by all who knew him. Visitation will be December 11, 2025 at Buie and Cole Funeral Home 1301 S. Rock St. Sheridan, Arkansas at 1:00 pm with graveside service at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan, Arkansas at 2:30 PM.
