Betty “Mawmaw” Cunningham, 83, of Mount Ida, passed away on March 22, 2026, at Montgomery County Nursing Home. Born on December 22, 1942, in Floresville, Texas, she was the daughter of Aureliano and Angelita Conde-Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, James Cunningham; six brothers, Jesse Sanchez, Sonny Sanchez, Dale Sanchez, Cecilo “Chico” Sanchez, Joe Sanchez, and Alex Sanchez; and one sister, Mary “Nana” Sanchez. She attended Jesus Name Peace Tabernacle and was baptized in Jesus name by Pastor David Whitmire in Mount Ida, Arkansas, in 2013. She found great joy in spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Sophie. She also loved cleaning and helping others, as it brought her a deep sense of happiness and purpose.
She is survived by 2 brothers, Rudy Sanchez of Pine Bluff, AR, and Billy (Rosa) Sanchez of Lexington, KY; six sisters, Rosie (Lupe) Rodriguez of Holland, MI, Lila Roberts, Maggie Roberts, and Dora Stump of Pine Bluff, Carmen Robinson and Della Knapp of Sheridan; four daughters, Lisa (Eric) Brooks, Rockie James, Chrissy Phillips, and Nikkie Clark; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Betty lived a life defined by love, strength, and a quiet kind of perseverance that carried her through every season. Giving by nature and loving at her core, she made everyone feel seen, cared for, and at home in her presence. After the loss of her husband, James, in 2002, she showed true independence and unwavering strength, standing firm, moving forward, and continuing to pour her heart into the people and things she cherished most. Her determination showed even in the little things, like taking on laundry stains as battles she never lost. In every role she held, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she gave her whole heart. She will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, her kindness, and the countless small, meaningful ways she made life better for those around her.
Though her family grieves her loss, they find comfort knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones, and resting in the presence of the Lord. Her life was a testament of faith, love, and endurance, and her legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her. The family extends our endless gratitude to the staff of Montgomery County Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the past four years. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7
