Abraham Lonzo Landrum Jr. (A.L. as he was lovingly known) was born to Abraham Lonzo Landrum Sr. and Alzura Abigail Brown Landrum in Augusta, Arkansas. A.L. became a dedicated parishioner at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, at an early age. A.L. married Mossie Lee Doss on December 24, 1945; together they were blessed with six children: Alex (Francine), Dorothy Louise, Veotis (Evelyn), LaVern, William Gene and Judy (Jerry). He also leaves fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, who are all left to mourn his death. Abraham, his children with Mossie and all of his his children are recognized herein.
He had fifteen brothers and sisters; Eddie, Lonzella, Frannie, Willie B., William McKinley, Will Ella, Mae Ella, Lorzee and Ruby Jean; all preceded him in death. Six siblings mourn his passing; Benny Sr. (Charlene), Walter (Gayla), Isaac (Georgetta), Annie, Levada and Savannah.
A.L. started his adult life as a farmer. He and his father were among the largest black farmers in Woodruff County, until A.L. was injured in a farming accident. Once injured he could no longer farm and became an entrepreneur.
A.L. was a businessman, who owned the Eastend Shoe Shop and expanded it to incorporate a barber shop. He was a member of the Augusta School Board and was the first black man to fight and win a discrimination case against the city of Augusta. Daddy was charismatic, very active in the community, civic-minded, wise beyond his years, a role model to some, and always there to lend a helping hand to anyone.
